College Heights Commons
Grant Awarded
LMNA has been awarded its Fourth Neighborhood Matching
Grant from the City of Lakeland's Community Development
Department. The $5,000 in grant monies will be used to
continue the beautification projects in this wonderful
neighborhood park.
Several proposals were suggested last year and the
majority favored installing a brick pathway through the park.
The pathway will be constructed of antique bricks and
installed by Kelly's Masonry. It will run from the sidewalk
on South Blvd., through the gate and along the border of the
existing landscaping. From there it will follow the curve at
the sculpture and continue along the south and west
perimeters of the park. Weed and Feed
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, April 1st to
participate in a "Weed and Feed" maintenance morning. Spring
will have arrived in all of its glory and we will need to
tend to the existing plants and grass in our park prior to
beginning the new construction. In anticipation of the
pathway, we will be installing new landscaping that will
circle the trees on the south border as well as the park
sign. Again this year, the City of Lakeland, via Bill Koen,
will supply assorted plants and Nate Smith, Arbor Tech Tree
Care Inc., will supply the mulch.
Volunteers are needed to do the planting and install
additional irrigation to cover the two new landscape beds. My
thanks to all of you who pledged volunteer hours to bring
these plans to fruition. If you would still like to sign up,
please contact me, Diane Wulf, at 687-2607. Without our
volunteers none of this would be possible! May you enjoy the
satisfaction of having contributed to our neighborhood in
such a significant way.
I also encourage you to make use of College Heights
Commons. If you would like to hold a formal function there,
simply contact the College Heights Methodist Church
secretary and complete a "Facility Use Request Form".
Finally, mark your calendar for the Celebration/Volunteer
Appreciation Party on Friday, August 25th at the Commons to
honor our volunteers and celebrate the completion of the 2006
improvement projects.
