Adopt-A-LakeLMNA Adopt-A-Lake
Activities include:
The October 15th Lake Morton Cleanup event rounded out our year for the pilot LMNA program. The volunteers at this event were Ford Gerritt, Tammy Hotze, Cheryle Johnson, Lonnie Johnson, Fern Maturo and Courtnay Zimmerman. I would like to personally thank all the volunteers who have helped throughout 2005. The City of Lakeland will erect an Adopt-A-Lake sign designating Lake Morton's adoption by LMNA. This is the result of our volunteer efforts to clean Lake Morton and to keep the storm drains well-marked in 2005. The location of the sign on the shoreline is yet to be decided. Adopt-A-Lake is a national program, and you can find small, unobtrusive, Adopt-A-Lake signs posted throughout Lakeland (Lake Beulah, Lake Bonny, Lake Mirror, Lake Parker). The Lake Bonny Neighborhood Association, Lake Hunter Neighborhood Association and Lakeshore Neighbors Association are also responsible for their lakes. The City of Lakeland provides the equipment (bags, gloves, vests, etc.) while dedicated volunteers provide the help to remove debris. To date the Lakeland program has removed over nine tons of trash and debris from primarily urban lakes in Lakeland. See City of Lakeland Adopt-a-Lake for more information. |
