What has LMNA done for you lately?

The purpose of the Historic Lake Morton Neighborhood Association is to:

• Maintain, enhance, and encourage quality housing that reinforces the character, charm, and architectural integrity of our historic neighborhood;
• Provide a focal point for all neighborhood issues that affect a significant number of our residents;
• Promote beautification, pride, and good stewardship of neighborhood amenities and common spaces to combat neighborhood and community deterioration including juvenile delinquency; and
• Promote communication and cooperation between neighborhood residents as well as between the neighborhood and organizations within and including the City of Lakeland.

Here are some of the actions the Lake Morton Neighborhood Association has pursued for the betterment of the Historic Lake Morton Community.

Current:

• Closely monitoring The Master Plan of the First United Methodist Church for the neighborhood 
• Letter to Florida Southern College regarding Colony Arms Apartment Complex Purchase
• Opposing the Archdiocese of Orlando and St. Joseph's Academy's intention to demolish the historic home and contributing structure to our historic designation at 840 South Blvd. - if demolished, replace with landscaped green space
• Closely watching Florida Southern College's plan to build a Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center at the NE corner of Johnson and McDonald.
• Working to help keep trash pickup in the alley
• Ongoing representation for pressing neighborhood topics at Code Enforcement Meetings and the Historic Preservation Board
• Opposing the plan to build a 170 foot cell tower at the intersection of Ingraham and McDonald
• Adopt A Lake - Lake Morton quarterly clean up
• Annual Historic Home Tour
• Install and maintain Swan Holiday Lights
• Support network and discussion group on how to maintain your historic home
• Monthly Porch Party - provide social outlet and opportunity to meet neighbors
• Monthly Neighborhood Meetings - discussion of pressing topics of neighborhood interest

• Charitable donation from 2009 Home Tour proceeds - $500 Catholic Charities for Family Emergency Food Pantry
• Charitable donation from 2009 Home Tour proceeds - $500 Philip O'Brien Elementary School PTO
• Donation of Historic Lake Morton Neighborhood signs at various intersections throughout neighborhood
• Oppose Remar rezoning request for group housing on Tennessee Ave.
• Florida Southern College Master Plan and the City of Lakeland Special Public Interest (SPI) Zoning Process
• Donation of books to Lakeland Public Library: Great Tours: Thematic Tours and Guide Training for Historic Sites, Bungalow Details Exterior, Bungalow Basic Porch
• Donation of magazine subscriptions to Lakeland Public Library: Fine Home Building, Old House Journal, American Bungalow, Cottage Living
