May 2007 - 1042 South Boulevard

May's Home of the Month is a 1922 Craftsman bungalow and belongs to Amy and Bob Carbonara. This beautiful home, featuring a wonderfully inviting porch, is located at 1042 South Boulevard.

There weren't many historical homes for sale back in 1998 when Bob, who was already renting a home in the neighborhood at the time, began his search to buy. He printed up flyers and distributed them throughout the neighborhood to help with his search. Luckily, Bob happened upon this wonderful home as the previous owner was preparing to have his first open house. Bob made an offer the night the 4-sale sign went into the ground. Happily, his offer was accepted and his search was over!

Bob, a partner with Southern Milling & Lumber Inc., has renovated the home's kitchen and restored the heart pine floors to their original beauty. The two story, 2400 square foot bungalow, boasts crown moldings, original windows, French doors, and a brick fireplace that is flanked with built in bookshelves. This warm and inviting home is very tastefully decorated throughout. The couple's favorite room is the bright and cheery sun room where they enjoy reading the newspaper over their morning coffee.

Bob and Amy, who works for the U.S. Postal Service, plan on one day adding a deck and expanding the kitchen. Bob, who is an avid fisherman, appreciates the character of historical homes versus the "cookie cutter" homes that are being built today. The couple enjoy their home's close proximity to downtown and all of the activities that the area has to offer. They, along with their friendly nine year old Weimaraner, Jack, hope to live here forever.
