April 2007 - 911 South Tennessee
One only has to drive or walk by John and Rachel Chambliss' charming bungalow, located at 911 South Tennessee, to see why it is April's Home of the Month. The home, built in 1925, has wonderful curb appeal. John, a reporter for The Ledger, along with his wife, Rachel, who also works for The Ledger as an editor, have owned the home for a year. At one time, the home was converted to a duplex, but has since been restored back to a single family home by past owners. The couple refinished the home's pine and oak floors, bringing them back to their original beauty. The bungalow's interior boasts original built-in bookshelves and 10 foot ceilings. John and Rachel have been busy adding new sod and landscaping their front yard. Rachel, who has a green thumb and loves to garden, has created pretty displays of color through her use of container gardens and baskets of hanging flowers. Their favorite "room" is the porch which houses a swing and comfy chairs for relaxing. The couple also enjoy dining in this outdoor space. John and Rachel share their home with their nine year old dalmation, Molly. They love the neighborhood's location and enjoy being able to walk anywhere. They plan on living in our historic neighborhood for many years to come.
