January 2007 - 805 Winfree Avenue

Upon entering the jasmine covered gate that leads to Ken Henderson’s home, one sees a beautifully maintained garden green bungalow.  This bungalow is January’s Home of the Month and is located at 805 Winfree Avenue.

Ken and his two Irish Terriers – Boy from Holland, and Keegan from Tennessee, moved into the 800 square foot home two years ago.  It was originally built sometime between 1925 and 1930.  The home had been updated by the previous owner.   Ken, a talented gardener, has added to the beauty of his property with numerous plants, stone pathways, and designated entertaining areas.  The interior space of his home is immaculate and inviting.  The living room has a brick fireplace surrounded with bookshelves.  Original hardwood floors and crystal door knobs, along with interior french doors and tall ceilings add to the home’s charm.  Ken’s favorite room is the kitchen which features a large island.  Pretty windows and white painted cabinets with glass doors make this space light and airy. A laundry room is conveniently located off of the kitchen.  The master bedroom is nice and roomy.  A special personal touch for the home is a circa 1911 light fixture mounted on the front porch ceiling that came from Ken’s father’s high school gymnasium.

Originally from Illinois, Ken also lived in Europe for ten years.  He is a math professor at Florida Southern and enjoys the college’s close proximity to his home.  He also appreciates the neighborhood being “walker friendly”. Any passerby will appreciate the aesthetic contribution that Ken’s delightful home gives to our historic neighborhood.
