July 2006 - 605 McRorie Street

July's Home of the Month belongs to fellow LMNA members, Ann and Pete Wilson. Their salmon-colored bungalow, complete with crisp tropical landscaping, stands out on their street as a well-loved home. The Wilsons moved to their home three years ago and love the neighborhood that came with their new house. They remodeled the home, adding a large, well-designed master suite and turning a front bedroom into a den complete with built-in shelving. The stucco installed on the new addition was created to match the home's original siding, done by mashing pea gravel into the new stucco. This technique and the use of salvaged windows from a neighbor’s home makes it hard to differentiate between the old and the new. The home still maintains some of its original features including the front porch lights, oak flooring with a unique diamond pattern in the living room and a log cabin pattern in the dining room. The Wilsons added built-in storage seats below the dining room windows, overlooking the “garden”, complete with flowers and foliage painted on a side fence by their grandchildren. The Wilsons are currently mid-renovation of their kitchen, planning to install new cabinets, a recessed stove, and soapstone countertops. The home is decorated with a comfortable mix of belongings picked up during their worldly travels. Pete and Ann share their home with their friendly cat, Lefty.
