November 2006 - 933 South Tennessee Avenue
November’s Home of the Month is located at 933 South Tennessee Avenue. This charming 1922 bungalow, painted in the color of sea glass, belongs to Dana Baggett and her six year old boxer, Sebastian.
The 1100 square foot, two bedroom, two bath home was completely gutted and renovated by previous owner, Rich Campbell. The original front door and hardwood floors have been maintained. Dana, who purchased the home two years ago, loved the interior “sunbeam yellow” walls and transoms above the bathroom doors. Future plans include extending the deck off the back of the house.
White cabinets, wainscoting, antique glasses and vintage dishes make up Dana’s light and airy kitchen. An antique dining table is flanked by four wrought iron chairs scored at a nearby yard sale. The guest bath features a pretty floral shower curtain made by Dana’s mom, Linda, and vintage fixtures from an old hotel in Orlando. The master bedroom boasts a walk-in closet and is topped off with a beadboard ceiling. Dana’s great grandmother’s furniture sits prettily in this space. Dana’s eclectic collection of floral prints and antiques are scattered throughout her home. She is currently pursuing 1920’s light fixtures and crystal door knobs.
Dana’s parents help maintain the yard and gardens. Her father, Bill, found a large concrete bench for the side yard from an old home in Winter Haven. It is the perfect spot for sitting in the shade. The inviting front porch is often used for entertaining friends who have dubbed Dana’s home, “the happy house”. In such quaint and pretty surroundings, it is very easy to see why.
