May 2005 - 158 Lake Morton Dr.
The Wright House is a Colonial Revival home built in 1901, by Mr. R. L. Mayes, who was a City Councilman and owner of a local citrus packing house. John and Mabel Wright lived in the home from 1940 to 1982. Mr. Wright was a well-known real estate broker who was associated with Munn?s Lakeland Improvement Company. Extensive renovations were done by the Wrights in the 1940s or 1950s, changing the facade of the home. A leaded glass entry way was moved from a local business and became the focal point of the front of the house. Mike and Joy Martin purchased the home in 1989 and have enjoyed raising their daughters, Kate and Rachel, and numerous pets in the home. Extensive back yard renovations were done by the Martins in the 1990s. Mike is an attorney specializing in agricultural law whose office is also on Lake Morton. Joy is a physician who works at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. The Martins shared their lovely home, which features a one-of-a-kind Murano glass chandelier, during the first LMNA Historic Home & Garden Tour on September 25, 2004.
