February 2005 - 740 E. Chiles St.

The Herber residence is currently the home of Barbara Herber, her son Todd Kitchens, and Tom Karnitz. In November of 2002, Tom and Todd relocated to Lakeland to a rental property on Palmetto Street. Shortly thereafter, their present home on Chiles became available, and they jumped at the chance to be permanent residents of the East Lake Morton area. Built in 1949, the home was owned for the last 25 years by Mr. and Mrs. Max Farlow and has remained relatively original despite several prior owners. As soon as they moved in the current owners began to renovate the home to suit their needs. For the last year and a half they have painted all the rooms, revamped the bathrooms and kitchen, pulled up carpeting to reveal beautiful hardwood floors and created a beautiful garden. The Herber residence was recently honored at a City Commission meeting on December 6th, 2004, with the Residential Landscape Award by Lakeland?s Beautification Committee. Upcoming projects for the residence will be tackling the restoration of the windows and unearthing a fireplace hidden away behind drywall many years ago.
